A union is a business with only one major source of revenue: the dues, other fees, special assessments and fines they charge their members. The Steelworkers Union will want to get its cut of your paycheck and is free to do what it wants with those funds without your approval.

Here are some facts about fees and union dues, union's official financial statement, the LM-2. (A copy is available for your review—just check with Brandy and she will show you a copy):

  • Monthly dues are 1.45% of a member's total monthly earnings.

  • Monthly dues cannot be less than $5.00 and no more than 2.8 times the member's average hourly earnings.

The Steelworkers Union stands to gain a lot financially by trying to organize you and your fellow employees. With employees paying dues for every month for years, that money can really add up.

That's what the organizing drive means most to the Steelworkers Union - money.

But what would that mean to you? By entering some simple information below, you can see what you might be giving the Steelworkers Union over the life of a contract.
